Oil and Gas Industry Stainless Steel
Top Precision for Extreme Energy Applications
The oil and gas industry lives and works in the harshest of climates on Earth. From deep-sea drilling to high-temperature refineries, parts need to be able to take a beating. Arif Alkhayr offers top of the line products engineered for applications in the petroleum industry.
Our materials perform in the most challenging of upstream, midstream and downstream environments. We know that in this vital industry equipment downtime is not an option.
Stainless Steel is Crucial for the Oil and Gas Industries
The petroleum industry is home to extremely corrosive materials every day. Traditional materials are simply under siege from hydrogen sulfide, carbonic acid and naphthenic acids. In such cases stainless steel provides the ideal protection against these aggressive substances.
The magic ingredient is chromium. When there is at least 10.5 percent of chromium in stainless steel an oxide layer protects the material. This passive film automatically reforms when scratched to maintain protection.
There’s also extreme temperatures to worry about. Equipment is subjected to temperatures over 1000⁰F in deepwater wells and refinery procedures. Our SS grades are also very cost effective and thus become one of the most widely used types of stainless steel.
Other Prospective Applications in the Energy Field
Offshore Platforms and Subsea Equipment
In the unforgiving seawater and marine growth continually assault offshore platforms. They are resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion in the presence of chloride. These are suitable for risers, jack-up legs, mooring systems and topside facilities.
Underwater pipes must withstand enormous pressure coming from the depth of the ocean. High-Pressure 904L Stainless Steel Offers Outstanding Performance. Seaboard is made from Grade 904L stainless steel, providing excellent performance under high-pressure subsea environments. With outstanding impact strength, oil and gas can be safely transported from offshore drilling sites to headquarters.
Refinery and Processing Equipment
Refineries have miles of pipes as part of pipelines used to move crude oil, refined products and gases. Those systems undergo temperature and pressure fluctuations during normal operation. Our stainless steels withstand corrosive and erosion conditions in refinery service.
Typical refinery applications are heat exchangers, pressure vessels, storage tanks, pumps, valves, and boiler components. For that every application requires certain material requirements to deliver a good performance and safety.
Pipeline Systems and Transportation
Crude oil and natural gas are brought over long distances through pipelines. These pipelines typically transport products with abrasive contaminants or corrosive sulfur compounds. Stainless steel pipe resists oxidation, making it a low-maintenance solution that will last for decades.
Field joint coatings and alloy grades can increase the life of a pipeline by many years. By selecting the right material, it becomes even cheaper in maintenance and for accidents with negative influence on the environment.
Gas Processing and Amine Plants
Natural gas is processed at processing plants to purify it and separate out the various elements, including valuable hydrocarbons which can be sold on for further refining as well as oxygen, nitrogen, helium, hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide (CO2). These systems traffic in hydrogen sulfide and carbonic acid all the time. We have grade 304, 316, 329, 410 and 430 as well as special designs to meet your processing demands.
Our corrosion-resistant products have been in service in compressor cooler lines, sour-water strippers and sulfuric-acid alkylation units.
Our Oil and Gas Stainless Steel Grades
Austenitic Stainless Steels
Good corrosion resistance and for fabrication ease of these Types 304, 316 chrome, and the nickel used also. These alloys provide good strength with moderate oxidation and corrosion resistance in temperatures, from 260 to 399 °C. For many common applications, they are economical alternatives.
Duplex Stainless Steels
The duplex grades are a combination of the austenitic and ferritic types. This bimodal microstructure offers high strength and excellent corrosion resistance. Less nickel and molybdenum is used in the production of duplex steels which makes it a more cost-effective alloy.
These grades are great in petrochemical applications, pressure vessels and storage tanks. They can be utilized in lighter construction and still provide safety due to their high mechanical strength.
Super Duplex Stainless Steels
Super duplex grades have 25 percent chromium, or more so which would be higher Pitting resistance equivalent number. These top of the line materials can contend with even the harshest of environments. They are critical for umbilicals, flow lines, structure devices and key processing equipment.
Martensitic and Precipitation Hardening Steels
Grade 17-4 pH stainless steel is strong enough to take on any heavy-duty application, yet tough enough that you can machine it in multiple applications. It has an ultimate tensile strength of 190 ksi, which is higher than for typical austenitic grades. This material is suitable for drill collars, wellheads, and other high-stress applications.
410 and 420 martensitic grades provide the hardness and wear resistance. Although not as resistant to pitting corrosion as the 400 series, these are high quality Valve Steels suitable for very demanding valve applications requiring excellent mechanical properties.
Compliance with International Standards
QAC is not a matter of choice in oil and gas applications. Our materials are certified to meet ASTM International specifications. These specifications specify chemical composition and mechanical property requirements and acceptable manufacturing processes.
The NORSOK Standards are developed by the Norwegian petroleum industry as part of the extensive improvements to work within health, safety and environment (HSE). Our materials conform to NORSOK M-630 for pipings and NORSOK M-001 on material selection. We also satisfy ISO 17781 and ISO 17782 requirements regarding the control of duplex stainless steel quality.
Materials for sour service are covered by NACE MR0175 and MR0103 specifications. API 6A certified for pressure and temperature ratings on wellhead equipment. Traceability and industry standard certifications come with all our products.
Why Customers Choose Our Stainless-Steel Products
Long-Term Cost Effectiveness
Although the upfront cost may be greater, overall ownership can be significantly less with stainless steel. Longer lifespan reduces replacement costs. Lower maintenance needs mean less operations costs. Superior corrosion resistance eliminates water-waste from equipment, samples and production.
Enhanced Safety and Reliability
Failure of materials in oil and gas applications can be disastrous. Our superior quality stainless steel products allow for worry free use; known for their reliability. Parts hold structural integrity while in contact with poison substances and severe heat.
Environmental Sustainability
The oil industry is coming under pressure to minimize environmental harm. Sourcing durable materials that will stand the test of time is conducive to sustainability aims. And fewer replacements also equate to less waste and a smaller carbon footprint from manufacturing and transport.
Ease of Fabrication and Installation
Our stainless steel grades are weldable, formable and machinable. This flexibility can result in construction and maintenance time savings. It is easy to install as it allows you to use different joining forms and fittings.
